Optimization for limited angle tomography in medical image processing

چکیده
This paper aims to reduce the problems of incomplete data in computed tomography, which happens frequently in medical image process and analysis, e.g., when the high-density region of objects can only be penetrated by X-rays at a limited angular range. As the projection data are available only in an angular range, the incomplete data problem can be attributed to the limited angle problem, which is an ill-posed inverse problem. Image reconstruction based on total variation (TV) reduces the problem and gives better performance on edge-preserving reconstruction; however, the artificial parameter can only be determined through considerable experimentation. In this paper, an effective TV objective function is proposed to reduce the inverse problem in the limited angle tomography. This novel objective function provides a robust and effective reconstruction without any artificial parameter in the iterative processes, using the TV as a multiplicative constraint. The results demonstrate that this reconstruction strategy outperforms some previous ones. & 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

متن کاملGlobally convergent edge-preserving regularized reconstruction: an application to limited-angle tomography
We introduce a generalization of a deterministic relaxation algorithm for edge-preserving regularization in linear inverse problems. This algorithm transforms the original (possibly nonconvex) optimization problem into a sequence of quadratic optimization problems, and has been shown to converge under certain conditions when the original cost functional being minimized is strictly convex. We pr...
متن کاملImage processing methods for limited angle tomography and sparse angle tomography
The purpose of medical computed tomography (CT) is to generate a three dimensional (3D) model of inner organs based on number of two dimensional (2D) X-ray images taken from different directions around the patient. Clinical CT imaging improves and extends the operational and diagnostic X-ray imaging since it basically adds a new spatial dimension to the data by converting multiple 2D images int...
متن کاملBiomedical Image Denoising Based on Hybrid Optimization Algorithm and Sequential Filters
Background: Nowadays, image de-noising plays a very important role in medical analysis applications and pre-processing step. Many filters were designed for image processing, assuming a specific noise distribution, so the images which are acquired by different medical imaging modalities must be out of the noise. Objectives: This study has focused on the sequence filters which are selected ...
